Program Details
The Youth Civic Action Program (YCAP) is a partnership between the Center for Public Deliberation, local schools, and community groups to bring hands-on civic engagement into the high school classroom. In this program, our trained university student facilitators go into local classrooms to help students move from talk to action and work on real projects designed to create meaningful change in their communities. We collaborate with local teachers and other community groups to co-create a curriculum that helps walk students through issue identification all the way to project implementation while also giving them tools to be leaders in their schools and communities.
Past YCAP projects include student-led bias intervention trainings for teachers, school-wide projects on identity and inclusion, and an improved school recycling program.
